Please complete the required information (Name and Email address) and either print or screenshot a copy of your certificate.

Be ready to present your certificate in the office at boat check-out.

All operators will need to be present at the office with either this document or their boating license.

Dockside Safety Checklist

For Renters Without a Virginia Boater Safety Card

Virginia requires every boat operator to have either (a) a valid driver’s license plus a Virginia Boater Safety Card, OR (b) a completed Dockside Safety Checklist certificate. The Dockside Safety Checklist is free, takes about 25 minutes to complete online, and must be done 1–9 days before your rental.  the certificate is only valid for 10 days. Bring a printed or screenshot copy with you to check-in.

 

Step-by-Step

How to Complete Your Dockside Safety Checklist

  • Go to gooutdoorsvirginia.com and create a free account or log in.
  • From your account dashboard, select “Dockside Safety Checklist” under Licenses & Certificates.
  • Complete the online safety review — it takes approximately 25 minutes.
  • Pay the certificate fee (if applicable) and submit your checklist.
  • Download or screenshot your certificate immediately — you’ll need to present it at check-in.
  • Complete this no earlier than 9 days before your rental date — certificates expire after 10 days.
