OEM Service Intervals
Scheduled maintenance at the manufacturer's service intervals costs less than the repairs that follow deferred maintenance. A failed raw-water impeller, a corroded seacock, or a worn cutlass bearing (the rubber-lined bearing that supports the propeller shaft) is inexpensive to replace on schedule and expensive to repair after it fails.
Norton Yachts services engines and generators to the engine makers' (OEM) hour intervals: Yanmar diesels at 50, 250, 500, and 750 hours; Yamaha outboards at 20, 100, 300, 500, and 1,000 hours; and Fischer Panda and Onan generators every 100 hours. When an inspection finds a problem, the same yard handles the repair, with no second haul-out or second contractor.

Chesapeake Bay Seasons
Book winterization for October or early November. Under the Norton Yachts storage agreement, owners are responsible for freeze damage to engines and water systems on boats contracted or delivered after the first frost or after November 15. Winter land storage runs November 1 through March 31, and our crew keeps working on stored boats all winter, from routine service to repair and upgrade projects.
Spring commissioning returns a stored boat to service: engine de-winterization, bottom paint, zinc anodes, battery checks, and a full systems test before launch. Winter is the best window for bottom paint, Awlgrip, and repower projects, because the boat is already on the hard (stored on land) before the spring launch rush.

Boats stored at Norton Yachts must carry at least $500,000 in liability insurance and full replacement-value vessel coverage, as of the 2026/2027 storage agreement.
Proof of insurance, including carrier and policy number, is required on the storage agreement before haul-out.
Outside contractors are allowed if Norton Yachts approves them in advance and they carry insurance, including workers' compensation. DIY scraping, sanding, and bottom painting are not permitted in the yard.
Contractors must sign in and out daily and follow yard safety rules.
Norton Yachts adds a 2% environmental compliance fee on parts to cover disposal of waste fluids and chemicals under Virginia environmental laws.
The fee also pays for recycling and disposing of yard waste.
