Boat Haul-Out In Deltaville, Virginia
Norton Yachts hauls boats at our Deltaville boatyard, on the Middle Peninsula between the Rappahannock and Piankatank rivers, roughly 70 miles north of Norfolk on the Chesapeake Bay. Boat owners from Middlesex, Mathews, Gloucester, and Lancaster counties, the Northern Neck, and Mobjack Bay haul here rather than making the longer run toward Norfolk.
The service department is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Boats on Broad Creek can be picked up and delivered to our yard for $150. Deltaville is designated a Harbor of Safe Refuge, and our marina gives cruisers a transient slip if a haul-out is needed underway.

Haul-Out Repairs
Hauling a boat is the only time a yard can reach the running gear, so most boat haul repair happens right after the boat comes out of the water: a dragging cutlass bearing (the rubber-lined bearing that supports the propeller shaft), a corroded through-hull, or a bent strut, found on the lift straps before they become a bigger problem.
Common haul-out repairs include cutlass bearing and shaft seal replacement, through-hull and seacock repair, prop and strut work, and fiberglass blister repair. A repair needing more time than the haul allows keeps the boat blocked in our yard until it is done.
What Drives The Price
Haul-out cost comes down to three things: how long the boat is, whether it's a quick wash-and-relaunch or a haul with blocking for paint or repair, and what the crew finds once the boat is out of the water. That's why Norton Yachts doesn't quote a haul-out cost by service alone.
As a general range, a straightforward haul runs in the low teens per foot, with land storage and winterization each adding a few hundred dollars depending on the boat and its engines. Outside contractors need advance approval and insurance, including workers' compensation. DIY scraping, sanding, and bottom painting are not allowed in the yard.
Chesapeake Bay Seasons
Book the fall haul for October or early November. Under the Norton Yachts storage agreement, owners are responsible for freeze damage to engines and water systems on boats contracted or delivered after the first frost or after November 15. Winter land storage runs November 1 through March 31, and our crew keeps working on stored boats all winter.
A spring haul, or a spring launch straight from winter storage, returns the boat to service: engine de-winterization, bottom paint, zinc anodes, battery checks, and a full systems test before launch. Winter is the best window for bottom paint, Awlgrip, and repower work, since the boat is already on the hard (stored on land) before the spring rush.
